They are all spoken for. Within 10 minutes of opening the order books for the 2022 GMC Hummer EV, an electric full-size pickup truck, the first model year is sold out, said Vice President, Global Buick and GMC Duncan Aldred.
GMC opened reservations on October 20 as the 2022 GMC Hummer EV made its global debut. Each reservation came with a $100 deposit. Several thousand hand-raisers were put on a waiting list, Aldred said. Production of the 2022 Edition 1 begins in the fall of 2021 and it is a limited run, but GMC officials will not say how many vehicles that entails.
2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Starts at $112,595
All 2022 Hummers are the top-end, high-performance Edition 1 that starts at $112,595. It is only available in white, with black from the beltline up.
Power comes from a three-motor “e4WD” system that will give it 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque at the wheels, making it capable of rocketing 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds in Adrenaline Mode with the Watts to Freedom (WTF) launch mode experience that allows occupants to see and feel the vehicle prep for launch.
The truck has a projected range of more than 350 miles on a single charge. It can be charged using 800-volt and 400-volt DC fast chargers to add 100 miles of range in as little as 10 minutes, or conventional Level 2 charging that can take up to 30 hours from 20 percent to full charge.
Hummer Electric Pickup Loaded With Standard Features
The Edition 1 has standard 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires, rock sliders, adaptive air suspension, four-wheel steering, short overhangs, and special badging on the dash and startup screen. The four panels that comprise the Infinity roof come off and store in the frunk, creating an open-air experience. The Edition 1 also has enhanced Super Cruise, a first for GMC, which allows hands-free highway driving with automatic lane change.
More Hummer Variants Coming
The Edition 1 will continue to be sold in the 2023 model year which is when GMC will add the Hummer EV3X that is due in fall 2022. The EV3X also has three motors, torque vectoring, and the same launch mode experience as Edition 1, all for a starting price of $99,995.
In the spring of 2023, GMC will add the two-motor Hummer EV2X starting at $89,995. The base Hummer EV2 goes on sale in spring 2024 with a starting price of $79,995. It still has two motors, one front and one back, for all-wheel drive. And it has lockers for off-roading.
All subsequent variants will offer a full rainbow of body colors but retain black uppers which will be part of the truck’s signature look.
Reservations Open for All Hummer Variants
GMC is taking reservations for all four variants of the Hummer EV truck, which is built on a new electric vehicle architecture and was developed in an astonishing 18 months. The electric pickup will be built at the retooled Detroit-Hamtramck plant that has been renamed Factory Zero.
A GMC Hummer electric SUV is also in the works. Timing has not been announced but we are told it “won’t be too long.”
Aldred says the GMC brand has relied on its Denali sub-brand for strong sales and high transaction prices. The brand also added AT4 as a more off-road-oriented sub-brand. But Hummer takes GMC to the next level of off-road capability and “premium-ness,” he says. “It is the pinnacle of the GMC brand,” which he thinks will bring new customers to General Motors and to GMC.
