The 2022 CMT Music Awards red carpet is open, drawing in some of the biggest names in country music.
The 2022 CMT Music Awards, taking place at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium on Monday (April 11) night, made headlines well before the country awards show even got underway when Kelsea Ballerini – co-hosting alongside Anthony Mackie and Kane Brown – revealed she tested positive for COVID-19 and would have to pitch in remotely. “I cannot be there in person anymore and I am devastated. I am gutted,” Ballerini said. “But the good news is that I’m feeling a lot better and the incredible CMT family and my team have brought part of the CMT set to my house, to my little bubble, and set it up to where I can still host and perform.”
Regardless, it’s a big night for the genre. The Judds, one of country’s most beloved family duos, will perform on a nationally televised country awards show for the first time in more than 20 years ahead of their induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame next month and farewell tour this year.
Co-host Kane Brown is the big nominee going into the night – he’s up for four awards. Carrie Underwood, who with 23 CMT wins has more than any other artist, could extend her record in 2022: she has two nominations.
This year marks the first time the CMT Awards have aired on CBS. CMT aired the show from 2002-21, naturally, and the cable network will air the CMT Music Awards Extended Cut – which includes an added 30 minutes of new performances and extra bonus material — on Friday, April 15 at 8 p.m. ET.
