Although it’s not an entirely new car, the 2021 Lexus IS promises several upgrades over its predecessor. Keeping the same platform and engines as before, the small luxury sedan gets a fresher exterior design, an updated suspension, and a new infotainment system. With all the updates, the starting price has increased slightly from 2020, and the F Sport package is no longer available on IS 300 and IS 300 AWD models. However, other variants are cheaper than before, including the potent IS 350 F Sport.
The 2021 Lexus IS 300 RWD starts at $40,025, an increase of $440 from last year. At this price, it’s closely aligned with the 2021 Audi A4, which starts at $40,145. It also straddles the 2021 Genesis G70, which starts at $37,025, and the 2021 BMW 3 Series, priced from $42,245. The base model is the only IS to use the turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 making 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
The IS 300 AWD, priced from $42,025, pumps out 260 hp and 236 lb-ft from a 3.5-liter V-6. If you’re looking for more power, upgrade to the IS 350, which delivers 311 hp and 280 lb-ft and now comes standard with the F Sport package. This model starts at $43,925. Both cars are priced lower than their 2020 equivalents—especially the 350 F Sport, which was priced from $46,400 last year. That means the 2021 Is 350 F Sport represents a significant $2,475 discount over last year.
F Sport models receive aerodynamic design elements as well as 19-inch wheels, a beefier exhaust, and a red interior. Buyers now must select the Dynamic Handling Package to get adaptive variable suspension. The 2021 Lexus IS arrives in dealerships this October.
