You can forgive us for wanting to talk about knitwear incessantly right now. After a fairly lacklustre summer (save for that one week of really good weather), we’re very much looking forward to all the great jumper, sweater and cardigan outfit options that are out there. Of course, there are some classics that we go back to over and over. A black roll-neck? Absolutely. A cardi you can belt? You better believe it. But one piece of knitwear that I know every fashion editor loves is the Bella Freud 1970 jumper. It’s become something of a cult buy among the fashion and celebrity crowds.
The 1970 jumper was created in 2011 as part of Freud’s collection titled English Boy and has remained a best seller ever since. The brand has reissued it this season in an oversized fit, which, after two weeks, already had to be restocked, as it was sold out in most sizes. The 1970 motif has become a signature style of Freud’s designs, but it seems that the jumper with the numbers emblazoned across the front is the most popular.
